Since major league ballplayers return to the same locations in Florida or Arizona for about a month each year, who better to provide tips to fans planning their own trips? USA TODAY Travel and Major League Baseball have assembled a panel of star players — Shane Victorino of the Philadelphia Phillies, Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers and Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers — to share their travel tips over the course of the 2012 season.

Wilson Valdez has been shipped to the Reds for Jeremy Horst.
Thanks for the past two years Wilson, I hope you and Miguel Cairo can hold down the bench there.

Let’s take a break from the Winter Classic pictures and observe Roy with a humongous fish. Must be his victory fish after rescuing a dude from a snake.

Honestly, I do think I’m a Philly-type athlete. I think it’s a different feeling being here. And that’s the feeling I wanted so badly in Toronto. I wanted the fans to care. I wanted our players to care. I wanted it to be as meaningful as it could be, like it is here. The people here are so passionate, and I think also about the players who have come through here recently. The Chase Utleys and the Jim Thomes - all the hard-nosed and hard workers. That’s always what I wanted to be. I couldn’t find a better place to play.

What you see in the background is the beginnings of a hockey rink being built on Citizens Bank Park in preparation for next month’s Winter Classic between the Flyers and Rangers.
What you see in the foreground is Roy Halladay, in shorts, in 30-some-degree weather, long tossing. While they build the hockey rink around him.
This is the house that Roy built.

What did turn out is that Francisco’s bomb was the season’s final highlight, and Francisco’s biggest moment as a ballplayer. He got the special post-game treatment on national TV and reacted in typical humble fashion. In his soft voice he said he just got a good pitch to hit and put a good swing on it.  He did what a professional athlete is supposed to do - deliver under pressure to help his team.
